Sustainable development is a concept that’s becoming more and more widespread in communities across Canada and around the world. In its simplest terms, it is defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Canada Lands Company (CLC) understands the need to build strong and sustainable communities that feature modern, comfortable homes at a wide range of prices. Our commitment to meet this need has been one of the key elements of our success since our reactivation in 1995. It is part of our mandate to leave a lasting positive legacy in the communities we help create.

Reusing existing structures, reducing waste and careful planning, such as creating storm water management areas on sites -- these are just a few examples of our commitment to sustainable development:

  • Benny Farm – Located in the historic NDG district of Montréal, this former veterans housing project was redeveloped by CLC using the new technology to produce homes that are energy-efficient and produce less waste.
  • Village at Griesbach – This former Canadian Forces base in Edmonton features refurbished military homes and an extensive network of parks, trails and green space, creating a unique urban environment
  • Glenlyon Business Park – Western Canada’s premier business park is located in Burnaby, B.C., and features not only outstanding facilities for business, but also a unique environment that was developed through careful planning and a commitment to maintaining natural spaces.
