Located in downtown Toronto, Ontario, the original Convention Centre (North building), contains approximately 575,000 ft2 (53,419 m2) of gross floor area, including an exhibition hall, a ballroom, the John Bassett Theatre, meeting rooms and extensive additional support facilities. It was leased on a net basis to the Metropolitan Toronto Convention Centre Corporation (MTCCC) for a term of ninety-nine years.
In 1997, the MTCCC completed a $180 M expansion of the Convention Centre on lands leased from the City of Toronto and Canadian Pacific Railway. The project was built due south of the existing Convention Centre, adjacent to the CN Tower and Rogers Stadium. It was linked to the existing structure by an underground service tunnel and pedestrian bridge spanning the rail corridor. A 16-acre park has been created on top of the underground portion.
The expanded Convention Centre now comprises over 1 million ft2 (92,903 m2), including 450,000 ft2 (41,806 m2) of exhibit space, and is an internationally competitive facility with 80 meeting rooms totalling 105,000 ft2 (9755 m2), a 1,300-seat theatre, and 2 ballrooms totalling 78,000 ft2 (7246 m2).
CLC is not involved in the operation or ownership of the South building.
