The Trafalgar Road property comprises 10.8 acres (4.3 hectares) of vacant land in the northern area of the Town of Oakville, Ontario, located just west of Toronto. It was formerly owned by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO).
This property is within the North Oakville Planning Area which had its secondary plan formally approved by the Ontario Municipal Board in January 2008. The site has been designated as part of the Trafalgar Road Urban Core Area which will permit medium and high density residential forms. The Town of Oakville is currently working on an implementation strategy for the North Oakville area.
An adjacent 3.4 ac (1.37 ha) parcel is currently held by DFO for a tower facility, which could be combined with the Trafalgar Road property if the tower can be relocated. Development timing of the Trafalgar Road site is dependent on any changes to this DFO parcel to the south of the site.
In the short term, development is expected to proceed along the Dundas Street (Hwy. 5) corridor and northward toward Canada Lands Company's parcel. As this activity progresses, and necessary infrastructure is put in place, Canada Lands Company will advance the preparation of its development concept.
