650 Lawrence Avenue

Canada Lands Company (CLC) is proud to have played a major role in creating one of Toronto’s most successful affordable housing complexes – 650 Lawrence Avenue.

In 1998, CLC acquired the 3.8-acre (1.5-hectare) site, previously owned by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. After negotiating with several bidders, the company announced it would develop the site in conjunction with Options for Homes, a Toronto-based non-profit organization that specializes in affordable housing. Options for Homes built a 431-unit mixed use affordable housing project with homes ranging in size from 3 bedroom townhouses to studio apartment units. The community welcomed its first new residents in May of 2003.

In taking on this project, CLC helped meet a major need for the City of Toronto by providing affordable homes in a range of price levels. The 650 Lawrence Avenue project remains an excellent example of CLC’s commitment to meeting the needs of local communities.
