First envisioned as a potential residential community in 1967, McLevin Woods in Toronto, Ontario is a 41-acre (16.6 hectare) property. It features almost 600 residential housing units, with a mixture of semi-detached homes and townhomes. More than 10 acres (4 hectares) has been set aside for green space and woodlots to provide residents with access to recreational opportunities.
Canada Lands Company served as master developer for this property. The company worked with a number of organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, to ensure that affordable housing was available. As part of the federal government’s initiatives to reduce homelessness, a portion of the property was made available to Habitat for Humanity, who constructed 36 homes on the site. These homes welcomed their first new residents in 2005.
